Saludos familia!
Mark your calendars for Sat., June 28 from 3 to 5 p.m.— we’re bringing the stories of the My Austin Vida personal essay series to life with our very first live storytelling event, Historias of Resilience!
We’re proud to collaborate with Red Salmon Arts, Casa de Resistencia Books for this uplifting event at an important time in our country when our stories need to be amplified.
Earlier this year, we launched My Austin Vida, a community essay series exploring Austin Latinidad through the lens of resilience. Now, the powerful personal stories we published are coming off the page and into the room. Están invitados to an afternoon of storytelling, aguas frescas, música, paletas, door prizes, y más in a space rooted in comunidad, cultura, and resilience.
You’ll hear directly from our featured essayists:
- Kessly Salinas, who found community through ballet folklórico while in college.
- Liliana Valenzuela, who discovered a sense of belonging in Austin after arriving from Mexico.
- Tomas Salas, who felt a deep ancestral connection while traveling in Spain.
- Isadora Day, Austin Vida’s Associate Editor, who reflects on resilience and identity.
Plus, música by Brazilian artist Frederico7!
After the readings, we’ll host a plática—an open community dialogue about the stories we’ve heard, and the stories you carry. Everyone has a story, y cada historia matters. Stick around to learn how yours could be featured in the next installment of My Austin Vida.
Now more than ever, Austin Vida is committed to amplifying cultura and uplifting the voices of our comunidad.
