The evening will also include a book reading from the author, a discussion of the themes, a Q&A, and a book signing at the conclusion of the event. About the book: The Prison Industry builds on years of research by Bianca Tylek and Worth Rises and offers a comprehensive look at how corporations, with the help of complicit government partners, profit from incarceration. The book explores all sectors of the prison industry, from telecom to labor to healthcare, tracing their origins, naming the players involved, and exposing how they extract resources from public coffers and marginalized communities at the expense of public safety. It provides readers with a novel and urgent understanding of our carceral crisis, especially at a moment when the Trump administration is working to further entrench it.
