Indigenous Community-Developed Voice AI XR: A Conversation with Michael and Caroline Running Wolf

March 16, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Michael and Caroline Running Wolf

An in-person event at RSA in conjunction with EFF-Austin.

Looking for something free and/or indigenous-centered during Southby? Come by 2000 Thrasher Lane on Thursday evening to hear indigenous activists Michael Running Wolf (Northern Cheyenne/Lakota/Blackfeet) and Caroline Running Wolf (Apsáalooke Crow, née Old Coyote) share their experiences using media and tech to support indigenous language preservation.

From EFF-Austin: Indigenous communities are pushing back against a narrative of language loss by seizing the means of documentation. Michael and Caroline will share how they and their allies are working to build community capacity with the goal of creating Voice AI. They will speak about the Lakota AI Code Camp and other initiatives and discuss the ramifications this work will have on language reclamation.
