Throughout these pages\, Carolina Hinojosa-Cisneros honors our children\,our mothers\, and our antepasados with a subtle lyricism that demands our attention.Read these poems. They are timely in their defiance of injustice\, timely in their unfeigned compassion.—Octavio Quintanilla\, San Antonio Poet Laureate and author of If I Go Missing \n\n\n\n  \nMichael + Josephine tells the story of an unexpected love between Josephine\, a disaster relief worker\, and St. Michael\, the Archangel\, fully realized as a woman. As each tries to navigate their role in the world at large\, they navigate a blossoming love. \n\n\n\n  \nAbout the authors: \n\n\n\nCarolina Hinojosa-Cisneros is a Tejana poet\, freelance writer\, and storyteller. Her work focuses on faith and Latinidad. Her work can be found in On Being\, The Rumpus\, The Acentos Review\, Lookout Magazine\, Rock & Sling: a journal of witness\, and more. \n\n\n\nHer conferences and talks include\, “A Theo(poet)ic Revolution: The Language of Liberation” at Women Doing Theology\, and “Writing as Liberative Praxis: A Latina Narrative” at Gemini Ink Writers Conference. \n\n\n\nHer forthcoming work\, “Coritos for Las de Afuera” is out of Routledge Press in Latina Outsiders: Remaking Latina Identity\, edited by Grisel Y. Acosta. \n\n\n\nShe is a Jack Sr. and Doris McCord Smothers Scholar at Our Lady of the Lake University where she is in pursuit of an MA in English with emphases in Literature\, Creative Writing\, and Social Justice. \n\n\n\n  \njo reyes-boitel is a poet\, essayist\, and playwright. She is a former music researcher and a novice hand percussionist. jo recently presented a performance piece\, this body\, with W-I-P (Work in Progress). jo was the recipient of the Alfredo Cisneros Del Moral Foundation Award\, granted by Sandra Cisneros\, a long time ago. She leads community-based writing workshops with Gemini Ink and co-curates This City Is A Poem annually\, which provides daily writing prompts and features local and regional poets during National Poetry Month. jo is a Texas transplant by way of Minnesota | Florida | Mexico | Cuba. Her new book\, Michael + Josephine: a novel in verse\, was released in 2019 by FlowerSong Books. \n\n\n\n  \nRed Salmon Arts is a Native American/Chican@/x/Latin@/x-based cultural arts organization with a history of working within indigenous communities of Austin since 1983. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
