SUMMARY:A Fireside Chat with Bianca Tylek
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 13\, 2026 7:00 PM –  8:30 PM CT \nResistencia Bookstore\, 2000 Thrasher Ln\, Austin\, TX 78741 \nJoin us for a fireside chat with Bianca Tylek\, Jorge Renaud\, and Darwin Hamilton will feature the newly released book\, The Prison Industry: How It Works and Who Profits. The evening will also include a book reading from the author\, a discussion of the themes\, a Q&A\, and a book signing at the conclusion of the event. About the book: The Prison Industry builds on years of research by Bianca Tylek and Worth Rises and offers a comprehensive look at how corporations\, with the help of complicit government partners\, profit from incarceration. The book explores all sectors of the prison industry\, from telecom to labor to healthcare\, tracing their origins\, naming the players involved\, and exposing how they extract resources from public coffers and marginalized communities at the expense of public safety. It provides readers with a novel and urgent understanding of our carceral crisis\, especially at a moment when the Trump administration is working to further entrench it. \nRegister here: https://secure.everyaction.com/-yY2MwwEsUu_MNgF2tSiHA2

SUMMARY:¡Cine Resistencia!: Featuring Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo
DESCRIPTION:7:00 PM\, Saturday\, 28 March 2026 \nFilm Begins: 7:30 PM\, followed by Discussion \nSponsored by Red Salmon Arts and Humanities Institute \nAbout the Film:\nFollow stories of loss\, healing\, and new possibilities from the Salvadoran DC diaspora in Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo/The Most Beautiful Deaths in the World\, an artistically crafted feature-length documentary from Quique Aviles and the Yellow House Collective. The film follows Quique on his journey to find answers and healing from the traumatic events that led to his migration north\, leading him to write “Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo\,” a powerful\, heart-wrenching poem that serves to reclaim his dead and the dignity of a nation torn apart by war and mass displacement. Threaded within Quique’s journey are interviews\, music videos\, performances\, and archival footage of Salvadoran-Wachintonian artists that tell an intimate story of a community resolving trauma and finding identity\, belonging\, and joy after fleeing the Salvadoran civil war and settling in Washington\, D.C. They uplift the power of art to heal in a world fraught with legacies of injustice. \nRed Salmon Arts is a 501(c)3 grassroots cultural arts organization\, with a thirty-year history of working with the indigenous neighborhoods of Austin.
