DESCRIPTION:Join us June 2nd 11am -4pm for Tianguis\, a fundraiser for La Cuidad de Los Niños by @colectivo.in.situ\nLa Ciudad de Los Niños was built 66 years ago\, has housed many children\, survived earthquakes\, and still stands strong. Its mission is to restore the rights of children\, protect and provide clothing\, shelter\, education\, and medical attention to newborns – 18 year olds whose circumstances did not allow them to grow up with their relatives. La Ciudad de Los Niños does not receive help from the government and depends on the kindness of donors/community for their goals\, re-construction plans\, and orphanage needs (from the construction of more rooms and reconfiguration of space\, repairs\, to basic fresh food\, and more). Let’s give back to the hardworking caretakers and the kids by contributing to their goal. \nThis Tianguis\, we celebrate children with a raffle fundraiser\, a Nepohualtzintzin workshop by @ayolopaktzin \, puppet show\, piñata breaking + other activities pa’ todxs! Every vendor at this Tianguis is absolutely amazing and you shouldn’t miss this fun day celebrating the child in all our hearts. C u there. <3

DESCRIPTION:Join us for FREE youth summer workshops led by our brilliant partner Institute of Chicana/o/x Psychology and Community Wellness \nThis workshop is geared towards ages 13-17 and will take place on June 18th\, June 25th\, and July 2nd from 1:00pm-2:00pm. \nThe Institute is a community-building entity focused on wellness and strengths of the Chicana/o/x community through the lens of Chicana/o/x Psychology & Mesoamerican wisdom. In our work\, we address the risk factors and protective factors related to the wellness of the Chicana/o/x community\, including historical factors of oppression as well as ancestral strengths and wisdom. \n“Identity\, Wounds & Healing – (Re)connecting to Our Own Brown Wellness” will be a circle where we intentionally deepen our understanding of our collective cultural wisdom while we address the individual and community struggles and pains we experience on our path to wellness. SUMMARY:Barrio Writers Summer Youth Workshops for Summer 2024
DESCRIPTION:Barrio Writers is a youth centered and youth led creative writing workshop for youth 13-18 years old. Barrio Writers creative writing program aims to empower teens through creative writing (poetry\, fiction writing\, personal narratives\, zine-making) and cultural arts that represent their experiences. Youth will discuss and write about issues of social justice that are important to them as well as community solidarity and care. Barrio Writers is supported by our community partner\, Red Salmon Arts.  \n  \nBarrio Writers Workshops are free and open to youth 13-18 and will take place at Resistencia Bookstore on Thursdays\, June 20th and June 27th 10:40am-2pm  (includes lunch) with a youth reading and celebration on Saturday\, July 13th\, including the presentation of a youth created zine.
