New chapter for longtime bookstore @ Austin American Statesman

New chapter for longtime bookstore

When one of the longest-running Chicano/Latino/American Indian bookstores in the Southwest moved from South First Street to East Cesar Chavez Street, it marked the end of an era. But for Resistencia bookstore, it also meant the beginning of a new chapter.

The legacy of trailblazing local poet and Resistencia founder Raúl Salinas lives on under the care of Austinites Tañia Rivera and Lilia Rosas. I’m excited to see how Resistencia, which for decades has nurtured artists, writers and social justice activists, keeps its history alive while also embracing new ideas for the bookstore’s future.
