From the official book description: “The writings of more than fifty authors and the artwork of eight artists manifest the nuanced complexity of what it means to be Tejana and how this identity offers alternative perspectives to contemporary notions of Chicana identity, community, and culture. Considering Texas-Mexican women and their identity formations, subjectivities, and location on the longest border between Mexico and any of the southwestern states acknowledges the profound influence that land and history have on a people and a community, and how Tejana creative traditions have been shaped by historical, geographical, cultural, linguistic, social, and political forces.”

Ire’ne Lara Silva explains: “As a writer and an independent literary arts coordinator, my work centers around Mexican-American/Indigenous culture and history, diversity in the arts, and promoting the literary work of women, writers of color, LGBT writers, Texas writers, and especially work which celebrates Mexican-American culture, art, and history. I believe that the publication of this anthology, Entre Guadalupe y Malinche: Tejanas in Literature and Art, which was 20 years in the making and edited by well-known scholars, Dr. Norma Cantu and Dr. Ines Hernandez-Avila, is a fundamentally important step in representing the work of Tejanas.
